PLACE YOUR POLE
At the middle of the long side, near the fence.
Ride in walk straight towards the pole, and make a halt right in front of it. Stand still, then walk straight over the pole, and keep your line straight afterwards.
This is a good exercise for riders and horses of all levels. The novice rider learns to develop better timing with the aids, to get the horse to stop at the right spot.
The little bit more experienced rider can execute the exercise in trot. This leads to another challenge, apart from the challenge to place the halt from trot at the right sport in front of the pole;: there is also the challenge to start the trot immediately from the halt, so the horse trots over the pole.
The advanced rider can even execute the exercise in canter, with the same extra challenge as in trot.
